Back to School Meetup! Tuesday September 4th

Before the Expensify meetup on September 18th, WUTE will have a back to school meetup on Tuesday September 4th. It will be a time for us to kick off the new year, share summer and future projects, meet prospective new members, and check out the new WUTE lounge. There will not be a speaker or sponsor, just some time for members to catch up and hear about what’s going to be happening in WUTE this fall.

Expensify – Tuesday 9/18

I am happy to announce our first scheduled meetup for this upcoming fall! On Tuesday September 18th, the lead web engineer from Expensify (where I have been working this summer) will be stopping by while he is in town for the Career Fair that week. He will be talking about what Expensify does, problems they work on, challenges they face, and what it’s like to work for them. All in all, it should be a good meetup.

In terms of the fall meetup schedule, I would like to stick with the traditional setup of having a meetup every other Tuesday. If that’s the case, we could also have a meetup as early as September 4th. Stay tuned for more news.

cheers

Andrew

WUTE Updates

Welcome to the new WUTE!  The general layout has changed, and some new aspects have been added.  Specifically, the existing WUTE blog has now been separated into 3 distinct sections.  First, there is WUTE News.  Here, any information regarding the club including meetups, speakers, and events will be posted.  Second will be a new section that serves to highlight our members’ and alumni’s projects, going by the name of WUTE Blog.  Despite the generic name, this section will have a specific focus on our members, alumni, and their projects.  The last new section is WUTE Jobs, which will serve as a place for current WUTE members to find opportunities in the Tech Industry.  At this time, job listings will be open to only Washington University Alumni and any of our sponsors, but we may open it to all tech employers in the future.  To any alumni, if you are interested in recruiting for your company through WUTE, please email me at hessandrew@wustl.edu.

Cheers

[WUTE] Next Meetup – Wednesday, Feb. 8 @ 7:15pm

Hey WUTE,

For those of you who came to the Schoology event, I hope you enjoyed
yourselves and learned a lot. Of course we can’t just concentrate on
one speaker, though, so we’re moving on to a more traditional-style
meetup this week.

Israel Vicars from StartLouis will be coming to speak to WUTE members
this Wednesday, February 8th, at 7:15pm in the WUTV space. Just to be
clear, it’s not in the WUTE lounge; it’s in our next door neighbor’s
meeting area (the WUTV office).

For those who don’t know, StartLouis is the StartupWeekend for St.
Louis. For more info on StartLouis, visit http://www.StartLouis.com

See you Wednesday night,

First Meeting of Fall 2011

Hey!

WUTE will be having its first meeting next Tuesday, September 13th, in the WUTE Lounge. Directions to the lounge can be found at http://wute.ucitydesign.com/location/.

There will be two guests at the event! The first is Jim Mckelvey who is the co-founder of Square. Square is a mobile payments app that allows users to accept credit cards with a reader on their smart phone. Square was also co-founded by Jack Dorsey who was the original founder of Twitter. Stereotaxis, a local medical company, will also be talking about their work and is the Sponsor for this event.

The format of this event will be short presentations from each speaker and then a networking event with pizza and soda. Definitely come by if you want to meet people who are also interested technical entrepreneurship.

Finally, if you want to get more involved, we will be having elections for our new exec board at the next meeting. Talk to either Phips or Stan if you’re interested in running.
